2009 is Coming to an End and 2010 is Looming- The time is nigh!

What is the best way to end the year 2009?: Well, it would be imperative for me to express my gratitude towards my parents, family members and friends for their never ending support throughout the whole of 2009, recognize my humble but momentous personal achievements in 2009 and to atone for past mistakes by turning over a new leaf in the year 2010.

Personal Achievements in 2009:

§  Finished the first year of my degree programme in International Business (Hons) successfully with a CGPA of 3.77 which happens to be in the range of between 3.67 and 4.00 which means that I still fall under the first class qualifications- maintaining a CGPA of 3.77 in 2010 isn’t going to be easy. But, I’ll try my very best to maintain my CGPA because I want a first class degree to make my parents proud and to make it easier to secure a stable job in the future. =)

§  Re-learned how to drive a manual transmission car after 3 and a 1/2 years with Dad as the driving instructor.  A bit slow at first but I got the hang of it and can control the vehicle quite well after all those driving lessons I had with Dad at night when the traffic volume is at its lowest.

§  Met new friends and acquaintances throughout my college life and have built a close relationship with some of my friends who have helped me to get a better perspective towards life. Their selfless acts and words of wisdom are very much appreciated as they have made life in college a better learning experience for me.

I am grateful for:

§  my parents for providing a roof over my head, the clothes on my back, a conducive  living environment, moral support when I was down and de-motivated , financial support to pay for my expenses as a student in college, words of wisdom at the appropriate times and the most important of all- their unconditional love and affection. =)

§  the chance to pursue tertiary education in college which is the route or passport to the future.

§  having a clean bill of health without any major life threatening illnesses or health complications.

§  being impervious to major natural disasters or any untoward incidents in 2009.

§  a caring bunch of friends who are kind, considerate and unselfish.

§  the quality time spent with my friends and family members in the year 2009.

New Year’s Resolutions:

§  I hope to be more patient, respectful, less cynical and more polite when dealing with people especially my friends and my parents as I know that I am sometimes too honest and frank when making a statement to get my points across to another person.

§   I want to work harder to achieve my long term goals- one of which is to obtain a first class degree by maintaining a constant CGPA score in the year 2010 which is a tough but manageable endeavor.

§  I hope that I can lead a healthier lifestyle in 2010- cutting down on fatty, sugary and fried foods, a fixed exercise routine at least 3 times a week, and a better sleeping & relaxing pattern to remain physically and mentally sound.

§  I also hope to surround myself with positive energy by being an optimistic person who sees an opportunity lurking at every corner and not to let others bring me down with their negative comments and condescending statements which sometimes stems from their feelings of insecurity and jealousy towards another person.

The Car Accident

The diagram below shows what happened in the accident on the 27th of December 2009:

The worst case scenario occurred on the 27th of December 2009, a day after Boxing Day. Along a narrow stretch of road in a housing estate, I was driving my Mum’s Kancil and had to avoid an Avanza which was parked on the right side of the road. After that, since I noticed that there has been a lorry parked in front of a house on my left side a few meters ahead; I swerved to the right thinking that I could avoid hitting the lorry. Unfortunately, I missed by a couple of inches and banged into the right side of the lorry’s rear end. The car’s front windshield was shattered upon impact and minor car damages were sustained on the front passenger side.  The lorry did not bear the brunt of the impact but my Mum’s Kancil was slightly damaged in the aftermath of the accident. = (

Luckily, no one was hurt and the claims made with the car insurance company has been approved and a payment of RM1500 will be paid by the insurance company to pay for the damages to the car, I hope it would be enough to pay for the cost of the repairs to the car which wasn’t badly damaged during the accident.  Another point worth noting is that the accident did not occur on a busy highway or main road which would have been a more severe accident as the car would have been travelling at a high speed, I was very fortunate. Damages to the car can be repaired but human lives are irreplaceable once it’s lost. An unlucky day which will forever be etched in my mind to remind me to be more careful while on the road  the next time I decide to get behind the wheel. =(

The True Meaning of Christmas

Christmas is not a time nor a season,
but a state of mind.
To cherish peace and goodwill,
to be plenteous in mercy,
is to have the real spirit of Christmas.

Live Like We’re Dying - Kris Allen

(Chorus):

Yeah, gotta start

Looking at the hand of the time we’ve been given here

This is all we got and we gotta start thinkin’ it

Every second counts on a clock that’s tickin’

Gotta live like we’re dying

We only got 86 400 seconds in a day

To turn it all around or throw it all away

We gotta tell ‘em that we love ‘em while we got the chance to say,

Gotta live like we’re dying

And if you plane fell out of the skies

Who would you call with your last goodbyes

Should be so careful who we live out of our lives

So when we long for absolution, there’ll be no one on the line

If someone says something negative about us,
don’t be a sponge, don’t hold grudges.
Let the attack roll off like water on glass.
We don’t have to let the negative comments affect us.

React properly and it’ll not ruin our day.
A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend,
being fired and getting stressed out.

December 2009

I am currently relaxing at home after working for about 3 and a 1/2 weeks as a student helper at INTI-UC’s Finance Office in November. I stopped because I needed to calm myself down and to clear my mind off unhappy thoughts which we’re bugging me most of the time as I carry out mundane and repetitive tasks at the Finance Office as a student helper. Well, it was also because I would be bored to death without the joker (you know who you are =) ) I was working with as he had decided to quit the job as a student helper because he was going on a vacation with his family in December.

After deliberating for a couple of days, I decided to stay at home throughout December to spend more time reading my favorite novels, going for evening hikes at a small jungle trail near my house, Facebook-ing, & watching my favorite TV shows on  television and also to watch the movies which I have missed when they we’re shown in cinemas.  Besides that, I want to spend the last month of 2009 relaxing at home, cleaning my bedroom to clear all my stuff and to declutter-ize my stuff which are in an inexplicable mess and helping Mum to perform simple household chores to lighten her burden as she is tired and lethargic after a hard day at work. Besides that, Christmas and New Year’s Eve is approaching soon and its a time to celebrate and be happy before a new year arrives in 2010. =)

I went to the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale at Amcorp Mall in PJ and purchased 6 novels  yesterday, each novel costs only RM8.00. A massive crowd was there and many of them carried their own baskets, trollies and boxes to the book sale as the books we’re damn cheap, the most expensive books we’re only RM15. Many visitors to the book sale bought a huge pile of books as it was such a bargain to get books at such incredibly low prices. One thing I hated about the book sale was that some of the books we’re not sorted according to genre thus making it difficult to search for my favorite novels, magazines, and autobiographies.

The novels I have purchased at the book sale. =)

The two CDs I have purchased. The greatest hits collection of two of my favorite bands- Switchfoot and The Goo Goo Dolls =)

The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.

World AIDS Day

1st December is World AIDS Day.

Here are some facts I would like to share:

Fact#1:Medical studies have shown that the AIDS virus cannot be transmitted via the following routes: toilet seats, cups, glasses and cutleries, swimming pools, doorknobs, hugs, handshakes and blood donation.

Fact#2: You cannot tell who has HIV by their looks, very much the same way as you can’t tell where a person lives by his dressing. He/ she could be among us without even telling us that they are living with HIV/AIDS.Think about it!

Fact#3: No one is immune from HIV/AIDS, not lesbians, not gay men, not bisexuals, not straights-NO one is safe/immune from it.It is not a disease confined to prostitutes, homosexuals and drug users, faithful wives might not know that their husbands are engaging in sexual activities with prostitutes or multiple sexual partners , an accidental blood transfusion with blood which has been tainted with the HIV virus might occur thus causing the person to be infected with the virus and also think about the babies who are innocent and was infected with the virus as a result of their mothers having the disease when they came into this world.

Fact#4: HIV/ AIDS is never meant to be a death sentence, access to the right drugs ,good nutrition and medical care can help save millions of lives throughout the world

Fact#5: 95% of people living with HIV/AIDS lives in the developing world, 60% live in Sub-Saharan Africa.

All I am trying to say is:Ignorance and discrimination will not stop the spread of HIV/AIDS which is now a global epidemic. We should understand the disease and prevent the spread of the disease once and for all. Get the AIDS red ribbon on Facebook to post in on to your wall at http://apps.facebook.com/worldaids/
